The Torch Doha - member of Leading Hotels of the World hosted special needs artists during the first Arts & Disability Festival in the Middle East organised by British Council in collaboration with Ministry of Culture, Arts & Heritage in Qatar.

Some of the artists accommodated at the hotel included Marc Brew, a physically challenged dance performer and choreographer, world-famous percussionist Dame Evelyn Glennie, visual artist Rachel Gadsden and many other guests from UK, Australia, Greece, Scotland and Trinidad and Tobago.

Dame Evelyn Glennie reveals:"My stay at The Torch Doha was excellent. The attention to detail was second to none and in particular I was able to order room service by using an in-room 'tablet' as opposed to having to go down to reception. This is an amazing step forward for those with a hearing impairment through the use of simple yet innovative technology."

"We were glad to welcome the special needs artists performing at the Arts & Disability Festival. We understand that every customer has different needs and we aim to make our hotel facilities available and accessible to all of our guests equally.

Moreover, we considered accommodating guests with visual, hearing or physical impairment following instructions received from Qatar Tourism Authority",says Hotel Manager Sherif Sabry.

"We are committed to finalise this project in the shortest time and future plans include adjusting restaurant menus, elevators and fire alarm system to make them accessible to all needs", Sabry continued.

The Torch features fully accessible rooms, equipped with wet room style shower for guests with physical impairment. All electrical appliances can be accessed through the newly introduced iPad in-room solution: television, curtains, air-conditioning, music, radio, doorbell requests and even order from room service at a touch of a button.  All public areas in the hotel are fully accessible to physically challenged guests.
